key&kite woodworking

My name is Danny Montoya and I began key&kite Woodworking as a side project during my twelve years as a kindergarten and first grade teacher. I recently quit teaching and have since been designing and creating a myriad of custom pieces full time.

My work is constructed mainly of reclaimed/repurposed or found wood, palettes and scraps. Some of my work can be found on Etsy but I mainly create custom pieces through commission.

Please contact me if you are interested in collaborating on design or if you'd like to order custom work.

Follow @keyandkite on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to keep posted on my latest chicanery.

  • Here are some things I made for the house. The first thing I made for our place was the record tower/DJ booth. It’s a beast.

Two summers ago I made the loft and dresser to make use of our high ceilings and maximize space. Easily the best decision we ever made as far as our place goes.

I made the desk immediately after out of a hodge-podge of scraps. Red wanted it to be shiny and look like metal so I spray painted it with yellow lacquer.

The lockers are not made of wood but it was fun to restore them and along with being highly functional, they look beautiful.
